Language shadowing is simple: listen to a line, then repeat it right after the voice — like an echo with intent. Elmren Voice gives you the loop on your Mac: a voice reads the line, you record yourself, and you A/B your take against the original.
A shadowing session
- Play the line. The follow-along player reads your text with word-by-word highlighting — listen first, eyes on the words.
- Repeat and record. On the desktop player's practice layer, record yourself repeating the line. No machine grades you — v1.0 leaves the judging to human ears.
- A/B it. Play the original and your take back to back. Hear the difference, then try the line again.
The voice you shadow
Shadow any of the 63 built-in voices — 54 Kokoro presets plus 9 Qwen voices — or a voice you cloned yourself. The text is your own material: TXT, MD, EPUB, PDF, DOCX, SRT, VTT, HTML, or plain paste. English content for now — the non-English quality bar isn't built yet, so the app says so instead of guessing.
The honest notes
- ✓English only, for now. Shadowing practice runs on English text in v1.0; other languages wait on a proper synthesis quality bar.
- ✓No machine scoring. The app records and plays back — it does not grade your pronunciation. You, or a teacher, are the judge.
- ✓Practice lives on the desktop. Recording and A/B playback happen in the Mac app; exported files play anywhere for listening.
